The award ceremony for the 3rd Mitsukoshi Isetan Senju Hiroshi Japanese painting competition was held.  Out of 20 winners, Ms. Lin Mingjun from China was given a grand prize. I thought it could have been anyone because of the high standard of works of all the winners  The exhibition will be held between September 4th to September 9th at Mitsukoshi Isetan in Nihonbashi.

I also visited a few elementary schools this month.  6th graders discussed what we can see in mulberry paper that students crumbled by hands.  Many wonderful works were created.  I believe that the most important role of art education in the age of AI is to find an image from scratch and give it shape/form to its idea.

This is part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' cultural and artistic projects, which are held at elementary schools across the country. I thought that all the children's works were shining like jewels. I have taught classes at many elementary schools, but I have never received the same work. It's no surprise, but I'm impressed once again.

A talk show sponsored by Tokyo Gendai was held at the Karuizawa Senju Hiroshi Art Museum. We talked with Mr. Ryuei Nishizawa, who designed the museum, and Mr. Yuji Akimoto, former director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, about the possibilities of Japanese art as a contemporary art.

We created the Osaka Shochikuza ceremonial curtain to commemorate the succession of Nakamura Manju, Tokizo, and Umekichi. It is a great honor to be involved in such a celebratory curtain, following the Tokyo Kabukiza. It expresses the brilliance of a powerfully flowing waterfall filled with a variety of light.
