There is a cliff landscape I have long wanted to paint, with a valley and a cave. To capture the different features of the cliffs, I have been making sketches.
I am at the Courtauld Gallery in London to see my favorite work by Manet. I believe this piece marks the beginning of modern art. To me, it seems that Manet himself is depicted on the right, engaging in a conversation with the woman from the past, but with a time lag.
I am having a breakfast in London. I will be making small talk at Sotheby London.
I am at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The Japanese galleries are rich in crafts works. There are also many excellent paintings. I feel honored to have the piece in its permanent collection.
I am at the Venice Biennale. The top award went to Aboriginal artists from Australia, and the U.S. representative is a Native American artist. The diversification of the non-Western world is being widely recognized. Yuko Mohri's work in the Japanese Pavilion truly felt like a representation of memento mori, and I found the combination of impermanence, life, and technology particularly fascinating.
