The exhibition in Japan “Hiroshi Senju, Waterfall on Colors” continues to Kyoto, after exhibitions in Tokyo and Osaka.

Professor Teiji Nakai of Kyoto City University of Art commented to me that these works reminded him of Christo’s Valley Curtain.  It made me happy since I had friendship with Mr. Christo during his lifetime.  I also admired Prof. Nakai’s flexibility to come up with such connection.

People comments, “It’s like macaron or konpeito (Japanese sugar candy)”.  Delicious sweets and food have beautiful colors.  The role of art is when people eat with their eyes; they feel vitality with all senses.  Light transforms into something familiar to us and reaches to us.

I participated in the award ceremony for 2nd Japanese Painting Award.  Many wonderful works were submitted.

Overall my impression of the works submitted, were works that directly faces and tries to overcome the death that is familiar to everyone, the expression of dynamism of life.  Covid and the war are affecting and inspiring artists.   Only 20 works were included as finalists.
